Each book in the new series is geared towards a different reader, these being the pediatrician, the preschool teacher, and the librarian, and the collection comes in response to what Borkowsky perceives as America’s reading debacle. As the author explains, there is currently a profound reading level and literacy discrepancy amongst America’s youngest children, one which reflects both socioeconomic and racial lines, and an inadequate understanding of the varied learning needs of a differently abled student body.
In light of systemic failings in the education system in the United States, Borkowsky has authored her ‘If Only’ series to impart the knowledge that she has gained working as a certified academic coach for students with Dyslexia, Auditory Processing Disorder, ADD/ADHD, and a host of other learning difficulties. It also reflects decades of experience as a literacy consultant working with school districts across the country.
